We are concerned citizens of Tuolumne County who are committed to ensuring our community is informed and has a say about the Rural County Representatives of California's ("RCRC") and its corporate collaborator, Drax's, plans for a massive-scale wood pellet and logging project in our community.
Great news to share! GSNR pulled the plug on the wood pellet project.
Here's what GSNR has to say about their decision ...
Since the close of the DEIR public review and comment period, GSNR staff have been diligently analyzing the more than 5,500 comments received.
Based on this input, and current biomass market conditions, on June 25, 2025, the GSNR Board directed staff to develop and analyze a reduced-scale project alternative that focuses on domestic rather than international usage of the sourced wood material and produces wood chips instead of wood pellets. Rather than targeting overseas energy producers, the project would explore emerging domestic demand for wood chips in California and adjacent areas that are forecasted to arise for sustainable fuel and energy production and innovative wood products. See press release.
The full analysis of alternatives considered by the GSNR Board is available in the June Board agenda packet.
Thank you to Ria Rice-Lawson for creating this beautiful design. Once we thwart the horrific wood pellet project, we can replace the "Ax Drax" with something more fun! We have 9"x9" transfers to brand t-shirts and/or sweatshirts. Shoot us an email to get yours.
Our Community Forum on January 19 was a huge success! The room was full of engaged citizens asking questions of a diverse and informative panel. Thankfully Access Tuolumne recorded the meeting. Watch the video below. Stay tuned for details about our upcoming August 14 community forum.
We are continuing the conversation and are strategizing our opposition - we're also eager to come up with alternatives that address the need to protect our community from fire in ways that foster community wealth.
